Connect ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor

Connect Shoptest to the AI assistant you already use: ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or a coding agent in Claude Code, Codex, or VS Code. Ask it about your store and it answers from what Shoptest's monitoring found: test flows such as checkout, storefront errors, broken links, page speed, Store Radar sales alerts, and outages at the third-party apps you use. It can also mute storefront errors and ask Shoptest to re-check a problem.

You sign in through your Shopify admin, or with your Shoptest agency account, so there is no API key to copy. Each connection is for one store, and the store needs an active Shoptest plan.

Prefer Shopify's own assistant? Sidekick needs no setup.

Connect your assistant

In Shoptest, go to Settings > AI assistants and click the button for your assistant. Every assistant connects to the same server address: https://mcp.shoptest.ai/mcp.

Claude

  1. Click Add to Claude. Claude opens its Add custom connector form with Shoptest and the server address filled in.
  2. Check the details and click Add.
  3. Click Connect and sign in.

This works in Claude on the web and in the desktop app. Claude's free plan allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner first adds Shoptest under Organization settings > Connectors. Shoptest is not in Claude's connector directory yet, so use the button.

ChatGPT

Shoptest is not listed in ChatGPT yet. Until it is, only ChatGPT Business and Enterprise workspaces can add it:

  1. In Shoptest, click Copy server URL.
  2. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins.
  3. Click +, then Add custom MCP server.
  4. Paste the URL and sign in.

Once Shoptest is listed, an Open in ChatGPT button appears in Shoptest. Click it, then click Connect and sign in.

Cursor

  1. Click Add to Cursor. Cursor opens and installs Shoptest.
  2. The first time Cursor uses Shoptest, sign in.

Coding agents

Click Copy setup prompt and paste it into your coding agent, or send it to your developer. The prompt is:

Connect to Shoptest's MCP server. Setup steps: https://docs.shoptest.ai/ai/connect.md

The agent adds Shoptest and tells you how to sign in. You finish sign-in in your browser.

To add Shoptest yourself, run the command for your agent:

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http shoptest https://mcp.shoptest.ai/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code, choose shoptest, and sign in.

Codex

codex mcp add shoptest --url https://mcp.shoptest.ai/mcp
codex mcp login shoptest

The second command opens the sign-in page in your browser.

VS Code

code --add-mcp '{"name":"shoptest","type":"http","url":"https://mcp.shoptest.ai/mcp"}'

Sign in when VS Code asks.

Other apps that support MCP servers: add https://mcp.shoptest.ai/mcp as a remote server and sign in when asked.

Sign-in opens in your browser.

Store owners and staff

  1. Enter your store address, for example your-store.myshopify.com.
  2. Click Continue in Shopify. The Shoptest app opens inside your Shopify admin.
  3. Click Allow.

Agencies

  1. Click Sign in with a Shoptest agency account. If you aren't signed in to the agency dashboard yet, sign in and you come back to this page.
  2. Under Store, pick the client store for this connection. Stores without an active Shoptest plan are listed but can't be picked.
  3. Click Allow.

Agency and support staff can't approve in the store's Shoptest app opened through staff access. Use the agency dashboard instead.

Each connection is for one store. To add another store, connect again and sign in to that store.

What you can ask

AskYour assistant tells you
"Is my store working right now?"The store's health and the worst open problems
"Why is my checkout test failing?"The test's latest results and where it failed
"Which storefront errors should I fix first?"Open storefront errors, worst first
"Are there broken links on my store?"The broken links Shoptest found
"How fast is my store on mobile?"Page speed for the pages Shoptest tracks
"Did Store Radar see anything unusual in my sales?"Open Store Radar sales alerts
"Is any app I use having an outage?"Outages at the third-party apps you use

You can also ask it to act:

  • "Mute that storefront error." Shoptest stops alerting about a muted error and leaves it out of open problems. You can ask your assistant to unmute it too.
  • "I fixed it. Can Shoptest check again?" Your assistant asks Shoptest to re-check the problem.

Re-checks

A re-check asks Shoptest to look at a problem again now. Shoptest's own check decides whether the problem is gone.

ProblemWhat a re-check does
Storefront errorScans every page the error appeared on, using one on-demand page check per page. The error closes only after a scan covers all of those pages.
Page speedTests the page again, using one on-demand page check.
Test flowRuns the test. It uses no page checks, but the hourly limit on manual test runs applies.
Broken linksNo re-check on request. They close after Shoptest's next crawl finds the links working.
Store Radar alertNo re-check on request. Store Radar watches sales all the time, and an alert closes when the numbers are back in their usual range.
App outageNo re-check on request. It closes when the app's status page reports the problem resolved.

On-demand page checks are a daily allowance. They reset at midnight in the store's timezone. Each connection can start up to 20 re-checks in 24 hours.

A re-check can't close:

  • A muted error. Unmute it first.
  • An error seen on pages Shoptest no longer scans. If it's fixed, open the error in Error Scan and click Mark resolved.

What assistants can and cannot do

  • Your assistant sees one store. It reads Shoptest's results for the store you signed in to, never another store's data.
  • Muting and re-checks are the only changes it can make. It cannot change settings or delete anything.
  • Shoptest decides when a problem is fixed. Your assistant can ask for a re-check, but only Shoptest's own check closes a problem.

Disconnect

Go to Settings > AI assistants > Connected assistants and click Disconnect next to the assistant.

A connection also ends:

  • 90 days after you connect it
  • when Shoptest is uninstalled from the store
  • for agency connections, when the agency is unlinked from the store, or when the agency member who approved it is removed, or changes or resets their password

To keep using Shoptest, connect again.

Troubleshooting

Claude won't add another custom connector

  • Claude's free plan allows one custom connector. Remove another one or upgrade your Claude plan.
  • On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds Shoptest under Organization settings > Connectors.

ChatGPT has no Add custom MCP server option

  • Until Shoptest is listed in ChatGPT, only Business and Enterprise workspaces can add it.

Shoptest says the store has no active plan

  • Only stores with an active Shoptest plan can connect. Allow refuses other stores, and the agency dashboard lists them but won't let you pick them.
  • Shoptest isn't monitoring a store without a plan, so a connected assistant says so too.
  • Choose a plan under Settings > Plan & credits, then try again.

Allow says "Agency and support staff connect assistants from the agency dashboard."

  • You opened the store's Shoptest app through staff access. Connect again and choose Sign in with a Shoptest agency account.

Sign-in says the request has expired

  • A sign-in request lasts 15 minutes. Start connecting again from your assistant.

Your assistant answers without using Shoptest

  • Mention Shoptest by name, for example "Ask Shoptest whether my checkout works."
  • Check that Shoptest is turned on in your assistant's connector or tool settings.

Your assistant shows the wrong store, or the store isn't in the list

  • Each connection is for one store. Disconnect it in Shoptest, then connect again and pick the right store.
  • Agencies see only client stores connected to their agency. To connect one, see Agency Access.

Your assistant asks you to sign in again

  • Sign-in lapses after 30 days without use, and connections end for the reasons under Disconnect. Connect again.

Your assistant says a limit was reached

  • Storefront error and page speed re-checks use the store's on-demand page checks, which reset at midnight store time. Test flow re-checks follow the hourly limit on manual test runs.
  • Each connection can start 20 re-checks in 24 hours. Shoptest's scheduled checks keep running.
  • If it says there were too many requests, wait a minute and try again. Each connection can make 60 requests a minute.

An answer looks out of date

  • Your assistant shows the result of Shoptest's latest completed check. Ask it to re-check, or run the test or scan from its Shoptest page.
